Zelma I. Dodson, 88, of Maywood passed away on October 31, 2007 at McCook, NE.
Zelma was born on February 1, 1919 South East of Maywood to Willie M. and Elizabeth C. (Spence) Flock. She attended country school south of Maywood which she rode her horse to. She graduated from NSA in 1936.
Zelma married Glen Richard Dodson on January 22, 1937. The couple made their home near Maywood where they were involved in farming and ranching. They lived in Holdrege for about a year before moving back to the farm South of Maywood. After Glenn's death 1983 she continued farming and ranching until 1996 when she moved to Curtis, where she lived until 2005. She then moved into Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
Zelma was a member of the Willing Workers Club of Maywood and the Christian Church of Maywood. She enjoyed painting, reciting poetry, gardening and keeping up her lawn. She was the first Lady in the gumbo clay that had a grass lawn, she was first told that it was a waste of water, but shortly there after others were plant grass lawns.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great grandson Denny Decent; son-in-law Billy Lloyd; 2 brothers Linnaeus & Marlin Flock; sister-in-law Maude Flock; an infant sister and 2 infant brothers.
Survivors include: 3 daughters: Gloria Mae Lloyd of North Platte, NE; Marylin (Marvin) Henry of Maywood, NE; Judy (Gene) Catt of McCook, NE; Sister-in-Law Irene Flock of Pearland, TX; 8 grandchildren: Susan (Robert) Nolan of North Platte, NE; Sheryl (Frank) Davis, North Platte, NE; Stacey Happle of North Platte, NE; Mardee (Mark) Studnicka of Cozad, NE; Melodi (Greg) McDiffett of Glendale, AZ; Marvin Dale (Christy) Henry of Derby, KS; Kelly Catt of Wesminster, CO; Kyle (Cyndi) Catt of Panama, NE. 19 great grandchildren; 18 great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 5, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Maywood Christian Church, Maywood, Nebraska, with Pastor Dale Heimer officiating. Burial will take place in the Maywood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Maywood Christian Church.
