Winfred Augustine Bratten, 78, of Brady, passed away on August 26, 2009 at Lincoln, NE.
He was born on December 16, 1930 to August and Minnie (Thompson) Bratten at the family farm in Wild Horse Valley.
On June 2, 1957 he married Beverly Maline at the First United Methodist Church, Cozad, NE. To this union 4 daughters were born: Debra Jo, Diane Kay, Jodi Lynn and Kristi Ann. Winfred and Beverly lived in Wild Horse Valley, Brady, NE in the same home where he was born.
He attended elementary school at District #109. He attended Brady High School, but was forced to leave when his father got sick. He later received his GED while serving in the Air National Guard. He was a lifetime farmer / rancher and was a Pioneer Seed Corn salesman for 25 years. He was a member of the Svea Dal Covenant Church since he was a teenager and held numerous church offices. Winfred's personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was reflected in everything he did. He was a member of Gideon's International, served on Youth for Christ Board, and the District 109 School Board. He had a special passion in an internal combustion engine he had invented and later patented. Winfred also enjoyed woodworking projects. He held an electrician's license and performed much electrical work for himself and others around the valley. Winfred was very proud of his family. In his later years he tried to attend all of his grandchildren's events that he could.
Winfred is survived by Beverly, his loving spouse of 52 years; daughter-Debra Jo Bratten of Milford, NE; daughter - Diane (Marlan) Hohnstein and their children Ryan, Evan and Amanda of Lincoln, NE; daughter- Jodi (Mark) Nelson and their children Jake, Tanner, and Karli of Bertrand, NE; daughter- Kristi (Joe) Burford of Brady, NE; sisters - Eleanor Johnson, Broken Bow, NE, Norrene Anderson, Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-laws - Dawna Bratten, Trudy Bratten, Linda Linke, and Judy (Don) Schmidt; brother-in-law - Tom (Judy) Maline; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Bratten, father, August Bratten, brother, Dale LaVern Bratten, brother-in-law, Willard Johnson, brother-in-law, Wilbert Anderson, brother-in-law, Dale Linke.
