William Barry Towne, 96, of Curtis, passed away on April 6, 2010 at Gothenburg, NE.
He was born on December 3, 1913 to William and Jessie (Barry) Towne in Lincoln County on the Barry Ranch, north of Maywood. He attended Maywood High School.
He reported for duty on February 20, 1941, as part of the second draft call, to the Army Infrantry. He was also a Guard on the Golden Gate Bridge. He spent 21 months in the Adak Aleutain Islands in Alaska. Then in 1945, he was sent to France and on to Germany to join General Patton's Army. On 'V' Day, he was at Onn, Austria. He later returned to the United States in April 1945, serving his country through the duration.
William was the third of twelve children. He lived and farmed the Towne Homeplace and the Barry Ranch. He especially enjoyed reading. William moved to Senior Living Choices in Curtis in July 2002.
William is survived by his brothers - Lawrence Towne of Curtis, NE, Virgil Towne of Curtis, NE, Leland Towne of Curtis, Max Towne of Elkhorn, IA, Harold Towne of Lousiana, MO; sister - Georgianna Ervin of Evergreen, CO, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin Towne, Floyd Towne, Leonard Towne and sisters, Verle Nelson, Rowena Burton.
