Willard Diehl

Willard "Bill" H. Diehl Jr., 82, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 20, 2014 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, NE.

He was born November 1, 1931 in Brady, NE, son of Willard and Eleanor Diehl. He grew up in Brady and attended and graduated from Brady High School. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1949-1951. On November, 22, 1951 Bill married Edith "DeDe" Sherman in Gothenburg. Bill worked as a sales manager for Haley's Chevrolet, John Hurt Chevrolet, and Bill Diehl Motors. He was also postmaster for the village of Brady, where he retired after 25 years.

Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Brady Village Board as well as the coach of Brady baseball and ran the clock for the Brady football games. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid sports fan.

Surviving are wife, Edith "DeDe" Diehl, sons, Scott (Pam) Diehl and Kenny (Lisa) Diehl, brother-in-law, Don Sherman, and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Lindekugel, Margaret Rubenthaler, Mimi Dodge, Karen Diehl, and Carolyn Kelsey, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Bockus, daughter, Dee Ann Bartlett, brothers, Kenny Diehl and Jimmy Diehl, sister, Lorraine Lawrence, grandsons, Justin Bockus, Doug Bockus, and John Bockus, granddaughter Melissa Diehl and son-in-law, Jim Armstrong.

Graveside services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, October 3, 2014 at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
