Wayne Benash, 91, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 16, 2021 at Hilltop Estates.

Wayne was born January 26, 1930 in Blue Springs, NE, son of Gilbert and Pearl (Crumb) Benash.  Wayne grew up in Blue Springs, NE at the homestead of his parents. He attended school in Blue Springs and graduated with the class of 1948. Following graduation, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force serving proudly from 1951-1955.

He married Marit Kalthoff on May 25, 1958 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gosper County, to this union two daughters and one son were born.  They moved to Milford, Cozad and then resided in Gothenburg.  He worked as a mechanic most of his life and was also a " Jack of all Trades".

Wayne loved gardening and yard work just not for his family but all the neighbors also, fishing was always a first after his work was done.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Benash of Gothenburg, NE, JoLynn Ann Richerdson of Fredricksburg, VA; son, Richard Benash of Megargel, TX; six Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, along with many extended family members and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Marit Ida Benash, his parents Gilbert and Pearl Benash, and one brother.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, May 20, 2021, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center, 420 20th Street, Gothenburg, NE.
