Wanda Baker

Wanda Elizabeth Baker of McCook formerly of Curtis died on Feb. 27, 2009 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Wanda was born on February 4, 1928 at Farman, NE to Clarence and Margarette Faye (Martin) Dixon. She married Arther Baker in 1943, to this union five children where born: Judith, Fonda, James, Arta, and Bonny.

Wanda received a Book Keeping and Accounting Degree from the University of Colorado in1957. She received a high school diploma from a Chicago correspondence school in 1961.

In 1985 Wanda went back to school and received her LPN in nursing in 1986. She enjoyed her work as and LPN. She worked as an in home nurse and also at a nursing home.

Wanda was a member of the ladies association, the Ft. Morgan VFW since 1963 and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Curtis.

Wanda is survived by two daughters Judith Walker of Ft. Morgan, CO; Fonda Goore of Arizona; one son James Baker of Curtis; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Margaret Rameo, Dorothy Dixon, Lois Heath; 2 brothers Kenneth Dixon and Donivan Dixon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two daughters Arta Baker and Bonny Baker; 1 brother Martin Dixon and a 1 sister Ruthie Rineheart.


Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Curtis is in charge of all arrangements.
