Walter Raymond Kampfe, 92, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 22, 2015 in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born October 16, 1923 in Gothenburg, NE, third son of Oscar and Minnie (Aden) Kampfe. He graduated from Gothenburg High in 1942 and entered the Army Air Force in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended Hastings college for two years and graduated from the University of Denver. He returned to Gothenburg and entered the partnership of Kampfe and Tollefson. He remained in the partnership for the next 25 years and was sole owner for the next 5 years. He opened the "Fabric Fair" business in Cozad. He sold that business in 1974 to concentrate on the full ownership of the Gothenburg Store. A short time later he entered real estate sales. Walt was a Chamber of Commerce member for 46 years, American Legion member for over 50 years, and a life long member of the St. John and American Lutheran Church. He served on a number of committees and sang in the choir for many years.
Walt married Rose Marie Hiles in 1950 and to this union four children were born - Katholeen, Lynda, Matthew and Jamie. Walt enjoyed his motorcycles, swimming and fishing. He also liked buying and fixing up houses for resale. Walt was legally blind for the past 15 years.
Surviving are wife, Rose Marie Kampfe of Gothenburg, NE, his four children Katholeen Kampfe of Duedin FL; Lynda Stratton of Grants Pass, OR; Matthew (Mary) Kampfe of Kearney, NE and Jamie (Colomba) Kampfe of Blairstown, NJ, 10 grandchildren Jama, Carla, Austin, Hunter, Aysha, Andy, Karson, Josef, Arianne Rose and Harrison; and six great grandchildren Caden, Mavin Marie, Jamason Jay, Aubrey Savannah, Robbie and Camille.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Paul and Robert and son-in-law Don Stratton.
Visitation will be held at American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, December 27, 2015, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. with the family present from 2 to 4.
Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, December 28, 2015 at 2:30 pm.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the American Legion or the American Lutheran Church.
