Vera Geiken

Vera M. Geiken 83 of Gothenburg , NE died on March 15, 2008 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

Vera Marie was born on December 13, 1924 at Gothenburg to Jurgen & Minnie (Heuer) Heidebrink. She graduated from Gothenburg High School . After graduating, Vera worked for Dr. Harvey for a few years prior to her marriage. She married Westley H. Geiken on April 20, 1947 at Gothenburg; to this union a daughter Donna was born.

Vera attended the St. Johné�a��a��s Lutheran Church then later the American Lutheran Churc h . Vera spent her life volunteering for many organizations. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Blood Mobile, PVC Club, Extension, Cozad & North Platte Rock & Gem Clubs, exercise class, and Girl Scouts. Vera enjoyed volunteering wherever she was needed. She kept busy with her garden and yard work, knitting, church activities, and especially with her family and friends.

Survivors include: her daughter Donna Lee McConnell of Gothenburg, NE; her sister Alice (Frank) Boyd of Gothenburg; 2 grandsons Jim & Jon; 4 great-grand grandchildren: Shawn, Rylee, Tiffany, & Elizabeth; 1 Niece Kay (DeLoyce) Robinson, 5 nephews: Roger Heidebrink, Bob, David, Tom, & Doug Boyd; a special cousin LaVonne (Fred) Werkmeister and many other extended family.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband Westley in 1993; her parents; 5 siblings: Walter, Lester, Marvin, Earl & Alma; father & mother-in-law: Bert & Cora Geiken; sister-in-law Opal Yiengst.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 19 at the American Lutheran Churc h in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein Officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery .

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Churc h , Central Plains Hospice or the Family.
