Vance Brown died July 25, 2010 at Kelso, WA in his sleep. To Vance's wishes, his body was donated to medical science and later cremated.

Survivors include his sons Greg and Don and their wives, his grandchildren, one brother, Merton and Shala of North Carolina; three sisters Pat Behrends, Beulah & Melvin Miner of Grand Island, Joan & Delbert Dishman of Gothenburg, nieces & nephews and a special friend Linda Johnson of Longview WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald, Melvin, Gordon and a sister Helen, brother-in-law Maynard Behrends, nephew Matthew Peterson, niece Mary Lou Miner.

Vance was born on March 17, 1942 at Burwell, NE on his grandparent's farm to Ralph V and Ruby (Cronk) Brown. Vance attended school in Broken Bow, Hendley, Lexington, and Brady, NE. Vance enlisted in the Navy on April 27, 1959 and was stations aboard the USS Noble.

Vance married Nancy Crosby in 1961. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Vance and Nancy moved to Nancy's hometown of Portland OR, where they had 2 sons Gregory and Donald. Vance worked as a steam fitter all of his life except for a few years when they moved to Gothenburg to be near his family. While in Gothenburg, Nancy and Vance ran the cleaners and raised their sons, before returning to Portland. Vance loved to drive and take car rides.
