Twila L. Bortner, 85, of Maywood, Nebraska, died April 17, 2012 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born April 6, 1927 to Frank Louis and Alda P(Smith) Ruppert and lived most of her life in the Curtis and Maywood vicinity.
She grew up on the family farm south of Maywood and attended the Buff View School near there.
She was united in marriage to LaDell Elijah "Buster" Bortner on April 10, 1943. To this union four children were born, Charles, Elizabeth, Mary and Kevin.
After her marriage she went with her husband to Fort Logan in Colorado; then after her husband was out of the Army they came back to Nebraska where they lived
south of Maywood near her father's family farm. There after they moved north of Maywood on a farm. Then in 1966 they moved to Curtis where they lived
for about 20 years or so. In 2002, due to some health problems she went to live with her oldest daughter for five years; then in 2007 she entered a nursing home
and was there up to her death.
Twila loved her animals. Her dogs especially brought her great enjoyment. They were always there for her when she needed them.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary # 1504 in North Platte, and the Maywood Christian Church.
She was a wife and caring mother and she also worked at the local grocery store and for the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture.
She was baptized October 10, 1958 at the Christian Church in Maywood.
She is survived by her daughters: Elizabeth (Roger) Broeker of Maywood, Mary (Richard) Ristine of Cozad, and son Kevin (Maurice) Bortner of Moorefield; eight grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Buster Bortner on February 14, 1998, her infant son Charles, three brothers, sister and parents
