Tom T. Remus, 69, passed away in his home in Aurora, Colorado, April 13.
Tom was born September 9, 1938, in Wellfleet, NE as the only child of Mae (Gadway) and Alfred Remus. He graduated from UNSTA in 1955, and he married Betty Fruit in 1964. The family lived in Curtis until 1986 where Tom worked as a carpenter and was a volunteer fireman and EMT.
The family then moved to Waxahachie, TX; Newton, KS; then Aurora, CO in 1996 where he continued his work as a carpenter.
Tom retired in 2004, when he continued his dream of restoring the original land and home of the Remus family homestead settled at the turn of the century by John Remus. He spent much of his time in his last years at the family farm and had planned to return there with his wife after her retirement.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the US, often to see his children and grandchildren in Iowa, Ohio and Texas. Tom also spent time on those trips tracing the family genealogy by visiting family gravesites and historical records repositories.
When he lived in Curtis, Tom was a member of St. Johné�a��a��s Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School. In Aurora, he attended Peace with Christ Lutheran Church.
Tom is survived by his wife Betty of Aurora, daughter LeAnn Cramer (Troy), daughter Ranae Calvert (Mark), son Joe Remus (KristinaWitmer), daughter Stephanie Lusk (Cory) . His grandchildren Jennifer Richardson (Josh), Melissa Thomsen, Beau Thomsen, Michael Cramer, Kyle Cramer and Rachelle Cramer; Matthew, Melanie Zielich, soon-to-be-born Jeremiah Calvert; and Tyler Savely, Alex Lusk and Mikhail Lusk. His great-granddaughter Jadyn Cramer.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father and mother- and father-in-law.
Visitation is from 9:00 am to 7 pm at Blasé�©-Wetzel-Strauser Funeral home on Thursday, April 17 with the family present from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Johné�a��a��s Lutheran Church in Curtis on Friday, April 18, at 10:00 am.with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial, immediately following the service, will be at the Wellfleet cemetery.
