Biography

Shirley J. Schroeder, 84, of North Platte, Nebraska, died peacefully October 6, 2014 at Southlake Village, Lincoln, Nebraska. Born October 10, 1929 in North Platte to Florence E. (Johnston) and Julius Forstedt. Shirley graduated from North Platte High School and received a Diploma in Nursing from Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She raised her four children in Curtis, Nebraska. She devoted several years to working as a psychiatric nurse in Lincoln and in Pennsylvania. She retired to her hometown of North Platte, Nebraska. Shirley had many cherished friends in North Platte, Curtis, and Lincoln. She was especially proud of the lifetime friendships she developed with a group of North Platte women who all first met when they entered Camp Fire Girls as Bluebirds.


Survived by her brother Wilmer M. Forstedt and his wife Jean, of Morro Bay, California; her children Jackie and Michael Fogel of Bonita Springs, Florida, Jon and Rebecca Schroeder of Curtis, Jeffery and Jill Schroeder of Lincoln, and Jill and Henry Hilles III, of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren Scott Fogel, Jackie Cooper and husband Larry, Whitney Lindstedt and husband Brandon, Tommy Schroeder, Shaylee Schroeder, Shannon Schroeder, Joel Schroeder, Allison Schroeder, John "Jack" Hilles and Anna Hilles; her great-granddaughter, Tylee Cooper; nephew Matt Forstedt and his wife Gail and family of South Lake Tahoe, California, David Forstedt and his wife Layla and family of Clovis, California. Preceded in death by her parents and her niece Sara Forstedt.

Memorial service to be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the North Platte Senior Center or your local Camp Fire Girls or Girl Scouts. Arrangements by Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis.
