Ruth was born November 19, 1927 in Curtis, Nebraska to John and Ida Minnie (Linnemeyer) Spitz. She was baptized on January 29, 1928 in Wellfleet, NE. Ruth grew up and attended school in Curtis graduating in 1945 from NSA.
Ruth married Jack N. Dempcy in 1949. To this union three children were born Gregory, Bruce, and Brady. Ruth later married Elden Hanna in 1963 and became step mother of his six children.
Ruth did an apprentice with Dolly Nelson and took her test to become a licensed cosmetologist in 1961 she operated Ruth's Salon until 1977. Ruth lived in Sterling, CO for several years. While there she attended NJC. Upon completion she worked as a nurse's aid at Logan County Hospital. Ruth also worked at Riverview Golf Course as a caterer for Melody Heim. Upon her return to Curtis, NE she completed a course in horticulture at UNSTA. Ruth worked for Dolly Nelson at Curtis Flowers and at an antique and china repair business.
Ruth was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis where she was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Altar Guild. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and helping friends in the community.
Ruth is survived by her son Bruce and wife Joan Dempcy of Sterling, CO. One step son John and three step daughters Maxine, Trudy, Cynthia. Daughter-in-laws Rita Dempcy of Ogallala, NE, and Carol Dempcy of Beaver City, NE. Also surviving are ten grandchildren Phillip Dempcy, Casey Dempcy, Russell Dempcy, Michael Dempcy all of Colorado, Wylie (Kristen) Dempcy of Lewellen, NE, Seth (Olivia) Dempcy of Rapid City, SD, Ira Dempcy of North Platte, NE, Chrystal Dempcy of Kearney, NE, Brianna Dempcy and Dalton Dempcy of Beaver City, NE, six great grandchildren, twelve step grandchildren, and eleven step great grandchildren. Other special relatives Joan (Verl) Owens of Bullhead City, AZ. Royce (Jo) Spitz of Mitchell, NE, Mary (George) Lindvall of Curtis, NE, Darlene (Rodney) Gilliland of Smithfield, NE, Ardis (Bud) Harwick of Curtis, NE and Mickey Nutt of Curtis, NE.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, two sons Greg S. and Brady M. two step sons George and Joe, four brothers Albert, Vern, Kenneth, John, and three sisters Alice, Iva, and Mildred.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will follow in the Curtis Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9, 2007 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Funeral Home in Curtis, NE.
