Ruth G. (Lind) Callahan, 97, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died November 7, 2011 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born October 9, 1914 in Snell Canyon, Government Pocket, Lincoln County, NE, daughter of Carl Adolph Lind and Fannie Fern Evarts Lind.
She married Willis "Bill" J. Callahan on March 22, 1937 in Stockville, NE in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Edwin and Bill's sister Amy. To this union six children were born; Robert, Rosella, Larry, Willis D., Douglas, and Christy.
She lived in and around the Brady area and a short time in Springfield, Utah. Ruth enjoyed quilting, crafting, doing crossword puzzles, baking, writing poetry, telling stories, and singing songs. Ruth enjoyed gathering with her family at the family farm or out camping. Grandma's talents included painting, wood working, and cutting out a running horse from a blank sheet of paper or tin. Grandma had a way of making each grandkid feel like they were the most important person in the world.
Survivors include two daughters - Rosella (Cecil) Baker of Ruskin, NE, Chris (Lynn) Barnes of Cozad, NE; two sons - Willis (Onna) Callahan of Alda, NE, Doug (Marlene) Callahan of Cozad, NE; daughter-in-law Nancy Callahan; sister-in-law - Margaret Lind; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Willis "Bill" J. Callahan, sons, Robert "Bob" and Larry Callahan, brothers, Edwin, Les, John, Albert, and Carl Lind, sister, Mary Doudna, her parents, and a great-grandson, Nicholas Freeman.
