Ruby E. Hanes, 75 of Curtis died on April 8, 2007 in Curtis, Nebraska. Ruby was born on April 28, 1931 to William and Margaret (Fox) Wilson at Moorefield, Nebraska. She grew up seven miles south of Moorefield and attended the Boston Ridge Grade School. On February 11, 1948 she married Leo Hanes at McCook, Nebraska. To this union four children were born Beverly, Linda, Donna and Marvin. Ruby and Leo farmed south of Moorefield for thirty-four years before moving to Curtis in 1994. Ruby was a member of the Frontier Rebekah's of Stockville, the Neighoborhood Quilting Club and The Friendship Circle of Stockville. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking but most of all she enjoyed her time with family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Leo Hanes of Curtis, NE, son Marvin (Carol) Hanes of Moorefield, NE; three daughters Beverly Lenz (Jim Johnston) of Dallas, TX; Linda (Mel) Armstrong of Elm Creek, NE, and Donna (Ray) Bunnell of Juniata, NE; son-in-law Larry Lenz of Curtis, NE; sister Zella Mae Sanders of Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-law Geraldine Wilson of Stockville, NE; and aunt Verla Gerlock of Fort Collins, CO. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Curtis with Rev. Kevin Burkhardt and Raymond Durner officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis. Burial will take place at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Frontier Co. Ambulance or the Sunset Haven Nursing Home.
