Biography

Ruby E. Gerdes, 94, of Gothenburg, NE passed away on February 10, 2007 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg after a lengthy illness. Miss Gerdes was a life-time resident of Gothenburg, Nebraska. She was born July 14, 1912 near Gothenburg to William and Tena (Ostendorf) Gerdes. She was the first child of five children.


She attended the District 2 Rural School. After graduating from Gothenburg High School, Miss Gerdes taught at District 2 North Willow Island School. She was a graduate of the Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska. After teaching in various rural schools, she taught at Gothenburg Elementary School until she retired. She also taught art for a number of years.


Miss Gerdes was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William Gerdes and a sister Norma Jean Gerdes.


She is survived by a sister Dorothy Shadduck of Longmont, CO; a brother Beryl Gerdes of Columbia, MO; four nephews Bill (Linda) Shadduck of Longmont, CO; Pastor Jim (Carol) Shadduck of Kenosha, WI; Dr. John (Virginia) Gerdes of Littleton, CO; Beryl Gerdes, Jr. of Grand Island, NE; and one niece Jean (Bill) Lyons of Laramie, WY.


Visitation will be on Monday, February 12, 2007 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 11:00 am at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke officiating.


Burial will take place at the Grandview Cemetery near Gothenburg.


Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, the family or school of donoré�a��a��s choice.
