Rosie Oman

Rosie Fanchion (Osborn) Oman, 101 of Gothenburg died June 24, 2011 at Hilltop Estates Gothenburg.

Rosie was born October 15, 1909 to Joe and Hattie (Burhop) Osborn at Cozad. She attended grades 1-10 in Roten Valley, graduated from Cozad High School, attended Normal Training in Kearney and was teaching school at age 16. She was a wonderful teacher as many of her students have acclaimed.

Rosie joined the Evangelical United Brethren Church December 19, 1926. The pastor was A. E. Bashford. Rev. Bashford also presided at the marriage of Rosie and Alfred Oman at Imperial on December 23, 1930. Two daughters were born to this union: JoAnne on October 13, 1937 (who died at birth) and Joeleen Jeanette, January 2, 1940.

Alfred and Rosie lived on the Tallin Table for a number of years before moving to the Elim Valley southwest of Callaway. They lived there until 1965 when they moved to Gothenburg. Rosie loved flowers, especially roses and had a special talent for growing them.

They attended the Tallin, Morning Star United Methodist and Gothenburg Evangelical Free churches over the past years. Rosie taught many Sunday School classes and Bible studies. She loved to sing the old hymns and could remember the words and music to most of them until the very last of her life.

Rosie was preceded in death by an infant daughter JoAnne, 1937; husband Alfred, 1998; son-in-law Ken Snyder, 1997; and parents Joe and Hattie Osborn.

She is survived by daughter Joeleen Snyder of McCook; 3 granddaughters: Rhonda (Dave) Pinkerton of Beatrice, Sharlyn (Jeff) Snyder-Coleman of McCook, and Alanna Eiland of York; 9 great grandchildren: Robin (Eddie) Leaders of Wisconsin, Danielle Crow of Omaha, Jacob and Sean Pinkerton of Beatrice; Shayne and Candace Coleman of McCook; Cole Eiland of Lincoln and Kellsey and Major Eiland of York.
