Ronald Slack, 80, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 2, 2020 in Gothenburg, NE.
As the sun stretched across the open farm land on the southern end of Gothenburg; the origins of the extraordinary life of Ronald Lee Slack began on that sunny day on November 1st 1940. He was greeted with hugs from his proud papa Gerald and buckets of kisses from his adoring momma Ina. Dean, Ron’s older brother was excited to have a partner in crime. Their gang would soon grow into a small fleet of five little rascals. The soft and reasonable Donna was next to join. Followed by the second in command Gene and then the strong-willed baby, Gary finally joined in the shenanigans. This faithful group of siblings graced and challenged the educators at The Little Red school house, 81R and then finally Gothenburg high school, where Ronald graduated and started his journey into adulthood.
After his educational career, Ron’s thirst for knowledge and adventure lead him into the Army National Guard, where he aided in the safety and protection of freedom. This time prepared him for the next step in his life as a farmer. The years passed while living his dreams of cultivating the ground, harvesting the crops, as well as managing the wellbeing of life stock. Ron’s life was enriched by the smile of one Constance Marie Weber. Their love and family started with a wink and a charismatic “I do!” in a little church in Phillips, Ne. January 28, 1973. The joys of parenthood were not too far behind. Ron and Connie welcomed the cries of a bouncing baby boy, Paul Floyd Slack. Paul was not alone long when the ornery and antagonist sister Anita Marie joined the Slack family. As the days turned into months and then years, the life of Ron was filled with an abundance of jokes, laughs, smiles, hugs and most of all that unconditional love that radiated from his being. He was a wise man that took advantage of every minute. A loving father and strong provider he started each and every day out with a cup of coffee and a thoughtful reading from his bible. Ron listened and applied the teachings from his life line of churches, Banner Methodist, Gothenburg Methodist, and Callaway Community church, these coupled with Christ’s love laid a powerful foundation of his Christian walk. Because of his desire to be better and his ability to spread joy, his life was full of beauty and silver linings. Ronald Lee took his roles as a son, brother, community leader, farmer, husband, father and grandfather seriously and with great love. The card games, family outings, Holiday gatherings, and the restful Sunday afternoon naps, created a nurturing environment to help foster the next generation. His four grandchildren Danielle, Dakota, Sydney and Aiden felt his love and support as they started their own journeys in this world.
Because of his authenticity, his genuine spirit of peace, his dedication and work ethic, he is and will always be held in high esteem. Ron knew how precious time was and how to best use it, so it would just make sense for him to journey home at the end of his life. So once again Ron’s bravery and courage lead him home, his journey was complete on Wednesday December the 2nd 2020 at his home in Gothenburg. He peacefully entered Heavens gates at 5:19 that evening.
His life will forever be cherished in the legacy that he left for all those he loved, his Beautifully sweet wife, Connie, his adoring son Paul Slack, his spunky and loving daughter Anita Jones and her beloved husband Mike Jones, his firstborn granddaughter Danielle Tien and her loving husband Austin, his resourceful grandson Dakota Slack, his courageous granddaughter Sydney Jones and his entertaining grandson Aiden Jones. Ron’s sweet and sympathetic sister Donna Hazen, his brother Dean Slack and wife Pam, and his other brother Gene Slack.
