Rodger Nelson Haynes, 63, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Rodger was born August 28, 1943, at Gothenburg, Nebraska, to Floyd J. and Ellen H. (Wilson) Haynes. He was raised in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1962. While in school at Gothenburg, Rodger excelled in track, holding all three of the sprint records for over 30 years. He still holds the 220 sprint record to this day. After graduating from high school he attended three years of college, one year at Wartburg College and two years at Kearney State College where he was also on the track team.
On October 8, 1965 he married Adelle Aden at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Kirk, Heather and Nathan. Rodger and Adelle returned to Gothenburg in 1966. Rodger worked for the Nelms-Dudley Veterinary Clinic until he started farming with his father-in-law in 1971.
Rodger enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, hiking, horses and anything else that involved being outside with family.
Rodger is survived by his wife of 41 years, Adelle; two sons, Kirk (Chris) Haynes of Gothenburg, NE and Nathan Haynes of Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Heather (Troy) Franzen of Gothenburg, NE; one brother, Buster (Lorraine) Haynes of North Platte, NE; one sister, Betty Beardsley of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren Zac Franzen, Makayla Franzen, Tylyn Haynes, and Quinn Haynes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dean, and a brother-in-law Bob Beardsley.
Register book signing will be available Monday, January 22, 2007 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, P.M.A. officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, Central Plains Hospice, and the Durham Cancer Research Center in Omaha, NE or donor's choice.
