Robert Wray Lydic

January 15, 1913 - January 14, 2009

Robert "Wray" Lydic, 95 of Gothenburg, formerly of Farnam, died on January 14, 2009 at Gothenburg.

Wray was born on January 15, 1913 at the homeplace south of Farnam to Robert "Bob" and Lula (Aylsworth) Lydic.

Wray attended Frontier County School District 60 (Highland School) and graduated from Farnam High School; he attended Kearney State College.


Wray married Theresa Derra on January 15, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farnam. Shortly after their marriage, Wray was drafted into the Army where he served his country during WWII in the 126 Infantry of the 32nd Division in the Southwest Pacific. Wray and Theresa had 4 children: Donald, James, Thomas, and Mary Ann.

Wray and Theresa farmed and ranched north west of Farnam on East Deer Creek. The land, horses, and cattle were deeply embedded into Wray's being. He passed this deep appreciation onto his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed people especially children. He loved the south hills, after he returned from the military he never wanted to leave again.

They retired and moved to Gothenburg in 1990. Wray and Theresa were active participants in Marriage Encounter. Wray was an active member of the Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church and Farnam American Legion Post # 288. He was a former member of the Lincoln Co. Extension board, 4-H Council and the Farnam School Board.

Wray was preceded in death by His parents Robert and Lula Lydic, his wife Theresa in 2004, a brother Frank, and sisters Sarah A. and Anna.

Survivors include his four children: Don, Jim (Joyce), and Tom (Dawn) all of Brady; and Mary (Brad) Porter of Fremont; 8 grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jennifer (Abby, Hallee, Devin) Bonta of North Platte; Nathan and Ashley (Emery, Breck, Ella) Lydic of Brady; Robert Lydic of Brady; Sarah and Mike (James and Jackson) Roberts of Brady; Adam and Stephanie Porter of Olathe, KS and Megan Porter of Fremont; Rachel Lydic and Joshua Lydic of Brady, brother-in-law Donald (Vonnie) Derra ,and Sister-in-law Elsie Mae Derra and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
