Richard Douglas Maurer, 74, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 24, 2016 at his son's home in Gothenburg, NE.
Richard was born January 23, 1942 in Gothenburg, NE to Collis and Edna (Davis) Maurer. He married Carol Slack on September 5, 1965 and to this union three sons were born: Troy, Jason, and Greg. Rich and Carol later divorced. Rich married Judy Goodwin on October 14, 1995 and they were later divorced.
Richard served his country in the National Guard from 1963 to 1970 and was honorably discharged. He drove truck for NSG for many years. He also served on the Gothenburg Honor Guard for many years.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing but especially enjoyed trap shooting. He enjoyed football and was an avid Husker fan. Richard loved to make people smile and laugh and was often telling jokes or pulling pranks.
Surviving are sons, Troy (Kim) Maurer of Gothenburg, NE, Jason (Missy) Maurer of Phoenix, AZ, Greg (Nikki) Maurer of Phoenix, AZ, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, ex-wife Carol Slack of Gothenburg, step children Becky (Ryan) Kort of Gothenburg, NE, Jill (Duane) Abbot of Cozad, NE, and six step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild and ex-wife Judy Goodwin of Gothenburg.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother George Maurer, step-son Casey Goodwin as well as many aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow in the Peckham Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
