Rema Irene Kreis went to be with her Lord August 31, 2015 at Gothenburg, NE at the age of 80.
Rema was born on April 6, 1935 in Deermont, Tennessee to Gus E. and Ethel L. (Stewart) Headrick.
She was confirmed on December 26, 1948 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended school both at Deermont and Oakdale, Tennessee.
Rema was united in marriage to James Clayton Kreis on October 14, 1952 in Wartburg, Tennessee at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. To this union three sons were born, James David, Donald Ray and Gary Lynn.
The family moved to Nebraska in the early 1960’s. They owned and operated a café in Arapahoe for a short time where she would rise early and make her famous cinnamon rolls daily. She also worked at Monroe's in Cozad as a welder for 22 years before retiring.
Rema had a love for life and her family. She was known for her cinnamon rolls, her and grandpa's large gardens and her southern cooking.
Proceeding her in death was her husband Clayton on November 12, 2008, her parents Gus and Ethel, sisters Anna Mae, Lorine in infancy, Reba Honeycutt, Shirley Zumstein, brothers Samuel in infancy, and brothers Ray Headrick and Robert "Bob" Headrick.
She is survived by her sons: Dave and Janice of Shelton, Don and Deb of Gothenburg, and Gary and Beverly of Grant; eight grand kids: Dan (Kara) Kreis, Dana Kreis, Daphne (James) Tidyman, Shawn (Irish) Kreis, Stephanie (Brandon Torres) Kreis, Devan (Thad) Schomp, Kristina (Angel) Casillas, and Dallas Kreis; great-grandchildren: Katie, Ty, Ethan, Zachary, Connor, Brooklynn, Sawyer, Miles, Lilia, Keyenna, Harpor, Dailynn, Josclynn, Hayes, Andre, Myah, and another "on the way"; sisters Ruth Kreis and Fay Cox; brother Luis "Bud" Headrick and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Thursday, September 3, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, September 4, 2015 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE.
