Raymond Covey

April 27, 1921 — June 23, 2009

Raymond Jesse Covey, 88, of Moorefield, passed away on June 23, 2009 at his home in Burns, WY.

He was born on April 27, 1921 to Judson and Carrie (Maiman) Covey at Stoneham, CO. He graduated from Maywood High School in 1939.

On October 21, 1941 he married Nelda Frey at Phillipsberg Kansas.

He moved south of Curtis when he was young. He lived at Maywood and north of Curtis as a teenager. He later lived south of Maywood. After graduation, he farmed a few years before going into the service where he served in Japan. While in the Army he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal.

After the service he farmed for himself and later worked for the Department of Roads for 8 years, the Burlington Railroad - Dridge for 9 years and later for Farmland Co-op for 9 years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Maxwell, VFW in Maywood, also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed baseball, playing on the town teams for 45 years, also he coached women's softball. He really enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Raymond is survived by granddaughter - Shawntelle (Shawn) Young of Burns, WY, grandson - Shane (Mandi) McCarty of Burns, WY, granddaughter Darla (Steve) Walther of Stockville, NE; 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife, Nelda Covey, his parents, daughter, Denise, son, Gary, brothers Douglas Covey, Maurice Covey, and Donald Covey.
