Peggy Ellen Whitmore, 95, of Curtis, Nebraska, went home to be with Jesus on July 13, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Curtis, NE.
She was born June 22, 1920 in Ligonier, IN, daughter of Fred and Lucille (King) Hendrickson.
Peggy grew up on her grandma, Bertha King's farm outside Ligonier, IN. She loved to help grandma with the chores and household work and was a very hard worker. She graduated from Ligonier High School, her father being the Superintendent. Peggy married Edward Wayne Whitmore on December 23, 1966 at Las Vegas, NV.
Peggy was a dog groomer and she owned her own grooming shop. She also helped raise and race greyhounds. They raced in Mexico, Oregon and Colorado. Peggy and Edward purchased property and fixed it up for rentals. Peggy would clean, paint and repair them to immaculate condition. Peggy also owned and operated two restaurants in her lifetime. She would welcome friends and family into her home, making sure everyone was well fed and taken care of. She loved all animals and donated to the National Humane Society. She contributed to the St Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD. She really cared about the welfare of the Lakota (Sioux) Children. She lived in San Pedro, CA; Tucson, AZ, Wheeling, WV before she retired to Curtis, NE.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Wayne Whitmore of Curtis, NE, daughter, Shirley (Vince) Najar, daughter, Suellen Smith; 8 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 38 great great grandchildren; sister Mary Lou Corral, brother Bill Stratton; special friends Harley and Kathy Hansen; Brian and Clover Nicklas and boys, along with extended family and friends; along with her special companion and cat Princess.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, three aunts - Louisa Biddle, Mary Patton, Aunt Evelyn; and her uncle Isacc King.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Wednesday, July 15, 2015, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with the family present from 5-6.
Funeral Services will be held at Berean Bible Church, 512 Prentiss, Curtis, NE, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:30 am with Pastor Brian Nicklas officiating.
Interment will follow in the Moorefield Cemetery, Moorefield, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
