“Only Dreams”
The Lord lent us two babies, we were in love at first glance,
In awe at such a gift, feeling so blessed with the chance.
The chance to have you with us, the chance to watch you grow,
To hold you both in our arms, but little did we know….
Oh sweet baby girl, how do we go on,
How do we live a lifetime, a life in which you are gone.
One arm so beautifully filled, with promises of hope,
The other, broken and empty, an absence, oh how do we cope.
Without memories leaves us empty, only dreams we have of you,
Moments of your existence, all too subtle and too few.
We had dreams of your lifetime, from baby girl to fully grown,
Of toy dollies in your arms, to babes all your own.
Visions of you and sisters playing, free of any worry or care,
Running together, hand in hand, sunshine glowing through your hair.
Dreams of your kindness, your laughter and your smile,
Of birthdays and graduations, and walking down the aisle.
Oh how we prayed for these moments, and still wish that they could be,
Oh what we would give for just one moment, for one sweet memory.
Left misunderstanding, but trusting in His plan,
Knowing you had a purpose, and can rest peacefully in His hands.
Oh sweet baby girl, this we promise you,
To carry your beautiful spirit, with us our entire lives through.
To look for you in the sunshine, in the rain drops and the wind,
You will never be forgotten, your story will never end.
As we learn to live on, in a world without you there,
In every happiness and every joy, you will be everywhere.
You are forever a part of your sister, and she a part of you,
So as we watch her dance through life, in a way we watch you too.
In her laughter we will hear you, see you too in her eyes,
Catch a glimpse of your grace, as she chases fireflies.
In her dreams we’ll see you playing, with sleepy eyes she’ll smile,
And we’ll give her an extra kiss on the cheek, for you once in awhile.
So rest soundly our precious babe, until we meet again,
Where we will hold you for all of time, in the promises of Heaven.
