Opal Kennicutt, 88 of Gothenburg, died on April 15, 2008, at Gothenburg.

Opal Ardell was born on February 27, 1920 at Overton, NE to Frank E. and Lucille A. (Furby) Chandler . Opal graduated from Eddyville High School in 1938. Opal lived at Eddyville until moving to Gothenburg in 1965.

Opal married Francis Allen é�a��A"Kipé�a��? Kennicutt on October 2, 1937 at Grand Island . They had 5 children: Richard, Robert, Roger, Sherill, and Sharon. Opal was first and foremost a farmwife and mother. Opal worked as a cook at the Gothenburg Hospital from 1964-1971 and Gothenburg Public Schools from 1971-1978. Opal & Kip owned & operated é�a��A"Kipé�a��a��s Drive-Iné�a��? restaurant. Opal volunteered for many including the Gothenburg Senior Center .

Opal was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in their Womené�a��a��s Group, Quilt Guild, Circle, Choir, and was a Sunday School teacher.

Opal enjoyed music, quilting, garage sales, gardening, and her grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband Francis é�a��A"Kipé�a��? in 1986, her parents Frank & Lucille, a sister Dorothy Chandler, two granddaughters Terry Knott, Kimberly Kennicutt, grandson Robbie Kennicutt, and a great grandson Drew Kennicutt.

Survivors include her 3 sons: Richard (Linda) of Lexington , NE ; Robert (Kay) of Eddyville; Roger (Cathy) of Gothenburg; 2 daughters: Sherill Neben of Lexington , Sharon (Ken) Hanks of Hurricane, UT; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Register Book signing will be held Thursday, April 17, 9:00 a.m.é�a��" 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Memorial s ervices will be held on Friday, April 18, 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church , Gothenburg , Nebraska , with Reverend Randy Dilts officiating.

Inurnment will take place in the Viola Cemetery , Eddyville , NE.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center landscaping fund, the United Methodist Church Building Fund, or the Viola Cemetery .
