Oleta Dodson

Oleta June Dodson, 95, of Hoxie, Kansas, formerly of Maywood, Nebraska, died November 28, 2015, at the Long Term Care Unit in Hoxie, Kansas.

She was born May 14, 1920, in Maywood, Nebraska, to Manley John and Bessie Alice (Corlett) Shirley.

She attended grade school in rural Hayes county, Nebraska, and graduated from Hayes County High School. During her life she lived in Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; Maywood, Nebraska; Curtis, Nebraska; and Hoxie, Kansas.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Churches in Maywood, Curtis, and Hoxie.

Oleta married Leonard Cowman on July 16, 1944, in Oberlin, Kansas.  He passed away on April 7, 1954.  She later married Leonard Dodson on August 18, 1955, in Curtis, Nebraska.  He preceded her in death on May 19, 1990.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Diane) Dodson of Nemo, South Dakota; Daughter, Sueanne (Mark) Hill of Hoxie, Kansas; brother Vernon (Eileen) Shirley of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Mathiesen, Michael (Amber) Dodson, Kelsey Hill, and Carman Hill; great-grandchildren, Sienna Mathiesen, Sawyer Mathiesen, Jaxon Dodson, and Corbin Dodson.

Oleta was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eileen; husbands, Leonard Cowman and Leonard Dodson; and special friend, Keith Lloyd.

Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska, on December 3, 2015, at 10:30 am, with Pastor Tammy Aubushon and Pastor Cyd Stein officiating. Interment will follow in the Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to Sheridan County Long Term Care Unit or Ridgewood Manor in Hoxie, Kansas.
