Norman Coder

June 2, 1936 — April 22, 2017

Norman Coder of Gothenburg, passed away in Lexington, Nebraska Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Plum Creek Health Care Community. He was 80 years of age.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents and sister Jane Halsey.  He was born in Elwood Nebraska on June 2, 1936 to John L. Coder and Dorothy (Keller) Coder.  He graduated from Elwood Public Schools and worked with his father and grandfather in the cattle and farming business on the Coder Herford Ranch located at Elwood Nebraska.  He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.  Norman was a talented carpenter and spent a number of years applying his skills in the Gothenburg area.  He was employed by Spelts Lumber Yard in Gothenburg and later joined Consolidated Freightway until his retirement.  After retiring, he built his home north of Gothenburg and settled there.

Always with a devilish sense of humor there was never a good joke that he didn’t enjoy and pass along.  He was fascinated by collecting western and antique memorabilia. He loved animals and was especially good with horses and cattle. He never knew a stranger nor forgot a friend.

Norman is survived by: his sister Judy Neil of Kearney, Nebraska, sons- Dallas and Bill Coder of Gothenburg Nebraska, daughter - Terry (Robert) Tigner of McCook, Nebraska, stepchildren - Todd (Jami) Koester of Kearney, Nebraska, and Christi Koester of Lincoln, Nebraska, grandchildren – Andrea Coder of Denver, Colorado, Brooke (Matt) Fosket of North Platte, Nebraska, Betsy (Matt) Charts of Grand Junction, Colorado, great-grandchildren – Sage Hoover and Fletcher Charts, Hudson and Silas Fosket, Madison and Max Koester, and Alex and Ashley Koester.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Friday, April 28, 2017, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm..

Funeral Services will be held at American Lutheran Church1512 Avenue G, Gothenburg, NE, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE.

Memorials may be given to The American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
