Norma Jean Scott, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 10, 2019 at her home in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born May 16, 1931 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Martin and Lillian (Beller) Ostendorf. Norma was raised in Lincoln at Tabatha Orphanage. She also lived in Gothenburg, Cozad, Alaska, and Holdrege. She married Walter E Scott on June 29, 1948 at the Cozad Church of Christ. The couple had six children, Walter Jr, John, LeRoy, Rhonda, Linda and Ricky. Norma worked hard all of her life. She was a cook in several local restaurants. She worked at Monroe's, and was a custodian at Holdrege Public Schools and in many homes. She spent many years as a caregiver and had a special place in her heart for taking care of the elderly. Norma enjoyed knitting and playing cards. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two sons, LeRoy (Julie) Scott of Gothenburg, NE, John (Janice) Scott of Lexington, NE; two daughters, Rhonda Hansen of Gothenburg, NE, Linda Crawford of Callaway, NE; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Water E Scott, Sr; two sons, Walter E Scott, Jr., Ricky Paul Scott; daughter-in-law, Emily Scott; granddaughter Melissa Scott; her brother, Leo Ostendorf; three sisters, Esther Sawicki, Mae Wallin, Delores Dutcher.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, December 13, 2019, 10:00 am - 1:30 pm.
Graveside Funeral services will be held at Gothenburg Cemetery, 1752 27th Street, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, December 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center, 410 20th Street, Gothenburg, NE 69138, Zion Lutheran Church, 77191 HWY 47, Gothenburg, NE 69138, Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, 602 Tenth Street, Gothenburg, NE 69138.
