Mary Schnackenberg

Gothenburg, Nebraska

Mary Patricia Schnackenberg, 73, of Gothenburg, NE, died on January 2, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was born on April 2, 1933 in Merna, NE to Almor and Dorothy (Powers) Juel. She graduated from Lexington High School.

On January 9, 1956 she married Robert Walter "Bob" Schnackenberg in Ogallala, NE.

As a young girl she worked in a Laundromat and bakery. Mary enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a member of the church quilters and also the Sod House Stitchers Quilt Guild. She quilted at the Gothenburg Senior Center and also volunteered in the kitchen. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church. Mary was immensely proud of her family and especially enjoyed all of the family gatherings. The job she loved the most was being a wife and mother.

Survivors include Four Sons: Ed (Deb) Schnackenberg of Omaha and children Robert, Rebecca and Gabrielle. Matt (Donna) Schnackenberg of Gothenburg and children Alisha and Tara. Tim (Kris) Schnackenberg of Brady and children Devin and Lindsay. Ken (Kathy) Steinman of Alliance and children Brandi, Joseph and Andrew. Two Daughters: Susan (Glenn) Finke of Cozad and children Maren, Shelby and Macy. Pauline Medley of Brady and children Michael, Tami and Amy. One great granddaughter Breanna. One brother Vernon (Sally) Lewis of Modesto, CA. One sister: Dorothy (Don) Carr of Sedalia, MO. Three sister in laws: Karen Juel of Nebraska City; Betty Juel of Lexington; and Hideko Juel of Pasadena, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob (April 6,1993), three brothers Sylvester, Louis and Wilfred.

Funeral Services are Saturday, January 6, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, NE, with Rev. Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA, officiating. Burial is in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Memorials may be given to Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department or donor's choice.

Services are in the care of Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg.
