Marjorie Golter

Marjorie  Golter, 91, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died February 7, 2017 in Gothenburg, NE.

Marjorie Deana (Huff) Golter was born on September 28, 1925 on a farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska, and baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection October 25, 1925. She was confirmed May 14, 1939. She was the youngest of four children; Harold, Mildred and Carl were her older siblings. Their parents were Edward and Lydia Huff. She attended the Union Ridge rural school north of Arapahoe as a child. She later entered the Parochial School. After her father died when she was just 8 years old, the farm was sold and her older siblings went to live with other relatives. Marge and her mother Lydia moved into Arapahoe. Marge graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1943. She enjoyed glee club and girl’s chorus and pep club. Marge liked pink roses and dancing, skating and collecting pictures were her hobbies. Her favorite class was typing and after graduating she worked.

She met Glen F. Golter also from Arapahoe as she was babysitting and pushing a stroller down the street. They dated and Glen had enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was stationed in California. They were married in Arapahoe on December 12, 1945. Marge and another young woman took off for California to join their husbands. This was not encouraged by anyone but love prevailed and off they went. Marge got a housecleaning job at one of the officer’s homes and when Glen was sent to Germany she came back to Arapahoe to await his return.

Marge joined her husband in Kansas where he got a job with the Bureau of Reclamation as a surveyor. They later moved to Johnson Lake where they began their Central Nebraska Public Power career. Moving to Jeffrey Lake only a year later Marge became a devoted mother caring for three boys, Gary, Bobby and Randy. She was involved in Legion Auxiliary, Kraft Club, Card Club and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte. Marge and Glen operated Golter’s Carpet Cleaning Service for many years as a side job. Marge was a big sports fan especially when watching her sons play. Marge also loved to hunt and fish with Glen and the boys. They took a yearly trip to Saratoga, Wyoming and fished for trout on the Platte River.

Marge enjoyed cooking and was known for her fried chicken and homemade cherry pies. You never left her home without having something to eat! She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother to seven, great grandmother to 19 and great great grandmother to 4.

Jesus called her home to heaven on February 7, 2017 at Hilltop Estates where she had resided for about two years. Marge is survived by her husband of 73 years, Glen, Sons; Gary (Connie)Golter of Hastings, Bobby (Susan)Golter of Brady and Randy (Elizabeth)Golter of St. Louis, MO, 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and 2 nieces. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Harold Huff, George Huff, sister Mildred Dahlenburg, and daughter-in-law, Julie Golter.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, February 10, 2017, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5-7.

Funeral services will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 402 S. Baytree Ave, North Platte, NE, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:30 pm.

Interment will follow in the Brady Cemetery, Brady, Nebraska.
