Marjorie L Ambler, 89, of Cozad, NE, died April 18, 2011 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
Marjorie was born on a farm near Osmond, NE; on March 24, 1922 to Ivan and Nettie (Taggart) Haswell. She had two brothers and one sister. The family moved to Arnold shortly after Marjorie was born. Marjorie attended country school and graduated from Arnold High School. She married J. Johns of Callaway and had two sons. They divorced after a few years of marriage. Marjorie lived in Arnold with her two sons and worked as a waitress. Samuel “Kelly” Ambler had just been discharged from the Army. He was a steady customer at the café and asked Marjorie out which started a courtship that lead to marriage in 1947.They lived at Arnold a short time then moved to Hemingford where Dianne was born and a few years later Nancy came on the scene. The family moved to Stapleton and Sandy was born. Marjorie worked as a waitress and also cleaned houses. They lived on the farm during these years. In 1965, the family moved to Cozad, NE. Marjorie worked as a waitress at Norms, and then worked at Monroe Auto for a short time, she also cleaned houses. In 1982, Kelly passed away and a year later Marjorie moved into Haymaker Haven. In 1995, Marjorie moved to Colorado and lived in a complex where her daughter Sandy lived. In 1999 she moved to Gothenburg where Dianne lived. She then moved back to Cozad until moving to Hilltop Estates in December of 2000. Marjorie always had a big garden. She liked to embroidery, play cards and never missed a BINGO game. She likes dogs and cats and always had several on the farm.
Survivors include son - Ronnie (Shelly) Johns of St Paul, NE; three daughters - Dianne (Dennis) Hardee of Brighton, CO; Nancy (Joe) Budd of Wheat Ridge, CO, Sandy Ragland of Denver, CO; 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; special family friend Bill Driscoll and a host of other family and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Samuel "Kelly" Ambler, son Jerry Johns, two brothers, a sister, and two great grandchildren.
