Maywood, NE

Mackay Brown, 92, of Maywood, NE died January 11, 2021 at Senior Living Choices, Curtis, NE.

Mackay Stevens Brown was born to Clyde and Esse (Stevens) Brown on May 30, 1928 on the homestead settled by his grandparents Amos Dawson and Sarah Pauline Stevens in 1895 in Hayes County, NE.

On July 18, 1949 Mackay married Elizabeth (Betty) Evans in Hot Springs, South Dakota and they celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary last summer. This union was blessed with two sons, Jim and Ralph.

Mackay started ranching and farming on the homestead after completing the eighth grade and from that time his work there was only interrupted for a couple of years when he was drafted. He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1953-1955 and as an active reservist  from late 1955-1961 attaining the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. After coming home from active service in 1955 Mackay and Betty moved a house onto the homestead, near the home where Mackay grew up and he remained there until the first of the year when he relocated to Senior Living Choices, Curtis, NE.

Mackay was a longtime member of American Legion Post 0287, The Nebraska Cattleman Association, and a charter member of Evergreen Union Church in rural Hayes County. He had always had a strong feeling of being responsible for being a good steward of what God blessed him with, whether that be land, cattle or money.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Melvin and wife Ellen Brown and a sister, Marion and husband Kenneth Hoschouer.

Survivors include wife, Betty Brown of Curtis, NE; two sons, Jim (Nena) Brown, Mound City, MO and Ralph (Linda) Brown, Maywood. Grandchildren Austin (Amy) Brown, Springdale, AR,
