Lois Rubenthaler

Lois Rubenthaler, 77, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away on December 1, 2008, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Lois was born on November 21, 1931 south-east of Ogallala, NE to William and Louise (Hansmeier) Holscher, Jr. She grew up southeast of Ogallala, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. She attended school at District #22 near her home until 8th Grade. Lois graduated from Ogallala High School in 1949 and then Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha in 1952. Lois lived in Ogallala, rural Brady from 1957 to 2001 when they moved to Gothenburg after retiring.
Lois worked as a Registered Nurse, mostly at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, Nebraska. On April 4, 1956, Lois married Donald Rubenthaler at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Ogallala. Lois was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, North of Gothenburg and its Women's Group. She was also part of the Registered Nurse's Club and the Spannuth Women's Club.
Lois was especially fond of her family, church, gardening and music. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Gothenburg Senior Center after they moved to town.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Donald, of Gothenburg, a daughter, Jill Rubenthaler, two sons: Dean (Marlinda) Rubenthaler, Dirk (Debbie) Rubenthaler all of Gothenburg, Grandchildren: Joey and Kayla Rubenthaler of Lincoln, Stephanie Rubenthaler of Gothenburg, Ne., Step-Grandchildren: Jeremy (Candace) Harms of Gothenburg, Brandon Harms of Gothenburg, Step-Great-Grandchildren: Brittany, William and Regan Harms of Gothenburg. Other family members include: Donna Holscher, Jim & Marilyn Rubenthaler, Eileen Nelson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Esther and Ella, a brother, Adolph Holscher and a brother-in-law, Calvin Nelson
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 9:00am -7:00 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Bill 'J' Terry, Jr. Officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
