Lois Hoaglund, 89, of La Vista formerly of Gothenburg and Brady, Nebraska, died July 17, 2021 at Homestead Assisted Living of La Vista in La Vista, NE.
Lois Marie Hoaglund was born on December 23, 1931 to Earl and Amy (Folk) Coleman. She was born on the family farm about 7 miles outside of Brady, Nebraska. Lois had two older sisters and one younger brother; Margaret, Doris, and Donald. Lois attended the Country School approximately a mile and a half from home for grades 1 through 8 and then she was to take an exam in North Platte, to determine whether or not she would be able to attend high school in Brady to which she did. Her favorite subjects were recess, music and chorus. She was proud of her accomplishments in the Brady High School chorus, where she received a Superior rating at the District Music Contest for her performance of “Danny Boy”.
Lois married Vernon “Shorty” Hoaglund at Zion Lutheran Church north of Gothenburg on June 21, 1951 and together they had three children; Mary Ann, Janet and Thomas. They made there home in Brady living on her families farm until 1969 with they moved into Brady. In 1997 Lois moved to Gothenburg where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Papillion to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Papillion.
Lois worked several jobs over the years including Weber’s Grocery Store, the TeePee Souvenir Shop, and as support staff at her beloved Gothenburg Senior Center. She even helped with visitations at Blase-Strauser Memorial chapel for several years.
Lois enjoyed music, sewing and crafts, cooking, spending as much time as possible with her family. Having family around always gave her the greatest joy and gave her a sense of peace inside knowing all the ones she loved were near, close to her and safe. From her childhood until her death the holidays were her favorite as it gave her time to truly celebrate life with her loved ones, and she did so with such great joy. Lois was a "vault" when you confided in her. She was a tiny woman, but a pillar of strength and dignity. She blessed us with many letters and scrapbooks from her young years until recently of her thoughts, thanks and "I love you" notes which we all will cherish for years to come. We encourage you all to do the same. The heartfelt appreciation of these cannot be expressed enough.
She is survived by her daughters: Mary Ann Hoaglund (Jeff Westphal), and Janet Hoaglund DeRuiter husband Gary DeRuiter; son Thomas Hoaglund and wife Joni; eight grandchildren: Marquis Thomas and wife Sarah Thomas, Tameka Matlock and husband Deandre Matlock, and Evett Secret and husband Marcus Secret; Emily Beccard and husband Matt Beccard; Margaux Hoaglund and fiance Matthew Pagano, Madalyn Hoaglund, Levi Hoaglund, Cherish Hoaglund, five great-grandchildren: Mariah Thomas, Mason Matlock and Xzavior Nelson; Beau Beccard, Olivia Beccard, and precious nieces, nephews and extended family.
