LaVerne Eric Peterson, 93, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, formerly of Brady, NE, died December 28, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Cozad, NE.
He was born April 3, 1918 north of Brady, NE, son of Clarence G Peterson and Anna Theresa (Kratzenstein) Peterson.
He lived with his family north of Brady until his dad passed away in 1927, then he and his mom moved into Brady. He graduated from Brady High School in 1936. He married Virginia Camblin on March 10, 1940 at Oberlin, KS. To this union two children were born: Ronald and Carole. LeVerne worked as mail carrier on the Star Route for about 20 years. He farmed and ranched in the Brady area and also worked at the Hay Mill. Pete was in partnership with HA Nelson Hardware store in Brady. He served on the Brady School Board and town board, he was active in the volunteer fire department, the Lions Club, the Lodge, and Eagles. He enjoyed Nebraska Football, cattle, hunting and fishing. He loved his family, especially his grandson Chris.
He semi-retired around 1983, but always told everyone that he really didn't retire because he still had one cow that Jim Lydic would take care of.
Surviving are daughter, Carole and her husband Delmer Brass of Gothenburg, NE; grandson, Christopher Brass of Lincoln, NE; a very special friend Lillian Johnson, along with several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by wife Virginia Peterson, son Ronald Peterson, parents, brother Ernest Peterson, sister Edith Peckham, sister Mae Nelson.
