Larry L. Darrington Sr. was born July 16, 1944, in Greeley, to Donald and Edith (Bishop) Darrington. He was schooled in Greeley and Monte Vista.
He joined the Navy in 1961, and served during the Vietnam War on the USS Osborne as a gunners mate.
After being honorably discharged in 1965, he worked for McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, Calif. He worked on the DC series jet aircraft.
He returned to Colorado in the late 1960s where he raised his family in Greeley and Pierce.
His career included working for the State of Colorado plowing snow in the Rockies and for the city of Greeley street department. He later drove a semi to all the continental 48 states, logging more than 1.5 million miles. He then got a job with Big R Manufacturing, transporting bridges to many locations in several western states.
Larry helped his son start Angel Light Pyrotechnics, one of the largest firework display and special effects companies in Colorado. He earned his hazardous materials endorsement, hauled explosives and shot many professional firework shows. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Bonnell Good Samaritan Center in the maintenance department enjoying precious time with the residents. He retired to rural Nebraska and loved living in the country.
He died peacefully at his home on Wednesday.
Survived by: His wife, Ruby (Karre) Ogden Darrington; his children from previous marriages, Larry Jr. (Ginger) Darrington, Philip Owens, Mandy (Troy) Shepherd; his sisters, Phoebe Worley, Judy Rogers and Donna Bell; and grandchildren Hannah and Jonathan Wheeler; Wesley Shepherd; Crystal and Logan Darrington; two nephews; and one niece.
Preceded in death by: His parents and a daughter Pamela June.
