Kay was born on March 13, 1937 at Gothenburg, NE to Milton & Vivian (Ostergard) Mann. She grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School.
She married Ed Hendren on December 7, 1957 in Smith Center, KS, they later divorced.
She graduated from Connecticut State University (formerly known as Connecticut State Teacher's College) with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.
Kay worked as a Field Representative/Administrative Law Judge, National Labor Relations Board, San Francisco, CA. Kay lived in the following places: Gothenburg; Hastings 1956-58; Hartford, Ct, 1959-62; Arlington, Va., 1962-62; Ft. Benning, Ga., 1962-63; Honolulu, HI, 1963-64; Arlington, VA, 1964-65; Freiburg, Germany 1965-67; Arlington, VA, 1967-69; West Point, NY, 1969-73; Palo Alto, CA, 1973-83; Menlo Park, CA,1984-2006; San Diego, CA, 2006-2007; McLean, VA, 2007-2008.
Kay was a member of the Peninsula Bible Church of Redwood City, CA where she served as a board member.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Vivian Mann and two brothers-in-law Willard S. Folsom and Danny Nichols.
Survivors include her sons: Matthew Behrens (and partner Michael Behrens) of Napa, CA; David Hendren (and wife Larissa Hendren) of San Diego, CA; John Hendren (and wife Karen Hendren) of Arlington, VA. Her sisters: Connie (Bruce) Johnson of Spearfish, SD and Roxie Folsom of Foster City, CA; a brother Terry (Billie) Mann of Gothenburg; and 6 grand children: Jessica and Nicholas Behrens of Napa, CA, Isaac and Noah Hendren of San Diego, CA, and Calvin and Spencer Hendren of Arlington, VA.
Her nephews and nieces include Torey (and Dave) Dudley of Hickman, NE, Patrick (and Sheryl) Nichols of Earlham, IA, Laura (and Mike) Dierks of Papillion, NE, Willard Folsom of Foster City, CA, Terri (and Brad) Morrow of Omaha, Heath (and Margaret) Mann of Pocatello, ID, Brandon (and Andi) Mann of Wahoo, NE, Shelly Herrod currently serving in Afghanistan, Mike (and Brenda) Herrod of Norfolk, NE, Brent (and Mary) Johnson of San Francisco, CA, and Jeana Johnson of Primera, TX.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29 from 1-8 pm with the family present from 6-8 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday October 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Randy Dilts Officiating.
Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
