Kathy Canuteson

Kathy  Jo (Garrelts) Canuteson, 60, of Ogallala, formerly of Cozad and Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away after a short battle with cancer on May 1, 2017 at Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, NE.

She was born March 7, 1957 in Lexington NE to Bernard and Donna (Earl) Garrelts.

Kathy grew up in Gothenburg and attended Kearney State College.  She worked at Bethphage Mission in Axtell, NE  then Macomb, IL.  Kathy then came back to Nebraska and worked at Alco and Kelly's Hardware in Cozad.  Kathy then moved to Ogallala to help open the Ace Hardware Store.  She enjoyed working with all the employees at Ace.  Kathy enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially her nieces and nephews.  Kathy had a passion for animals and cared for many pets throughout her lifetime.

Surviving are her sisters Kyla Huss and Karen (Steve) Barrett; brother Mark (Jamie) Poggendorf,  many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends Carl & Bonnie Raastad and Brian & Marcia Gustin.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Donna, sister, Kanda, brother, Kevin and her grandparents.

Memorial Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor James McCrickard officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

The family requests causal dress.

Memorials may be given to the Family to be determined later.
