Katholeen Dalrymple

Biography

Katholeen (Kaye) Noreen Hiles was born on January 20, 1916 at the family home on the 'round barn place' southwest of Gothenburg. Kaye was the second of four children born to Harry and Rose (Sylvan) Hiles. As a small child she became a baptized child of God.
At an early age Kaye developed a life-long passion for the hills south of Gothenburg and as a youngster she regularly rode her horse the five miles south from town to check the cows at pasture. Taking a ride to the farm and pasture remained one of her favorite things to do until well into her 90's.
Kaye attended Gothenburg schools and graduated with the Class of 1933. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln until the economics of the depression years no longer allowed it. She then moved to Denver and attended Barns Business School. It was there that she met (William) Glenn Dalrymple and he stole her heart. She and Glenn were married on June 20, 1937 and they danced the night away to the Lawrence Welk Orchestra at Elitches Gardens in Denver. Three sons were born to them, James, (Wesley) Glenn, and Daniel.
During the war years, Glenn and Kaye lived in California while he served in US Naval Intelligence. After the war his position with the Coors Brewing Company led them to Denver and Greeley CO, Phoenix, AZ, and Albuquerque, NM. Their home was always open to friends, family, and business acquaintances from 'back home' whether in the area on business, attending school, or just vacationing.
Kaye was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent markswoman and member of the Denver Police Department's Pistol Team. She was a great cook and hostess, planning and preparing dinner parties for Coors business events. She was an artist, an accomplished seamstress, a Toastmistress, and a savvy business woman. Fishing was a favorite pastime, especially trout fishing in the streams of the Colorado mountains. She enjoyed Western programs, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. But, what she truly enjoyed was a good cup of coffee and a visit with a relative or friend. Family was her delight and she holds a special place in the hearts of her nieces and nephews who spent countless hours with her and Glenn.
After the death of her husband in 1969, Kaye returned to Gothenburg and in 1976 moved to her childhood home where she passed away on June 3, 2013 at the age of 97.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rose Hiles, sister Patricia (Marvin) Stickleman, and brother James Hiles. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Connie L), W. Glenn, and Dan, her sister Rosemarie (Walter) Kampfe, and a former daughter-in-law Connie Dalrymple, all of Gothenburg, grandchildren JD (Kellie) Dalrymple of Lincoln, Matthew Dalrymple of Gothenburg, Sonja Dalrymple and family of Grand Island, and a great grandson Keegan Dalrymple of Lincoln. Also, step grandchildren, Chad (Shellie) Stull of Central City, Corey Stull of Milford, and Cressy Daharsh of Gothenburg along with 12 step great grandchildren. Cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends will miss her presence.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg. Visitation will take place Thursday June 6, 2013 from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg and burial will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
