Biography
Katherine Margaret Mellman, 91, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, died February 2, 2014 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born January 22, 1923 in Hastings, NE, daughter of John and Edna (Siekmann) Shueey at Hastings, NE. She graduated from Juniata High School in 1940. In 1944 she graduated from Hastings College with a teaching degree. She taught in Grand Island for four years and in Denver for two years. On June 25, 1950 Katherine married Quentin L. Mellman at Juniata, NE. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church and was baptized by her great-grandfather Rev. Henry Siekmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hastings. Rev. Paul DeFreese of St. Paul's Church officiated at their wedding. She taught at Gothenburg Public Schools from 1950 until 1986 when she retired. Mrs. Mellman taught second grade for many years and taught kindergarten the last ten years.
Surviving are son, Joel Mellman of Elm Creek, NE.
Katherine was preceded in death by husband, Quentin Lyle Mellman, her parents, son, Larry Mellman, brother John Shueey.
Cremation was chosen. There will be no services at this time.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Children's Home.
