It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Katelynn Ann Koubek, age 25. She died unexpectedly on June 18, 2019. Her death leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends.
Katie Annie, as her family called her, was born March 18, 1994, in Gothenburg to Peter and Susan Koubek. She was the baby of the family and never lost her free and child-like spirit.
She was a modern gypsy, enjoying Mother Earth and the gifts of the outdoors. Camping, fishing, and being outdoors filled her heart with joy. Dad loves to tell stories of fishing with Katie. She was a kind, warm soul who was loyal to her family and friends. She would do anything for the people she loved, without question. She had no enemies and knew no stranger. Katelynn loved old rock music, especially the Beatles. One of her happiest days was when she went with Mom and Tom to see AC/DC live in concert. She also loved movies, especially scary ones or anything with Johnny Depp, who she said she would marry someday.
She attended Arnold Public Schools through 6th grade and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 2012. She earned her CNA certification, but later attended CCC in Hastings to study her real passion - photography and art.
She is survived by her parents, Susan and Tom Schmiett of Gothenburg and Peter Koubek and Tonie Neumeyer of Arnold; grandparents Tim and Lael Greenlee of Gothenburg and Randy and Candace Fagot of Lexington; siblings Dustin (Macie) of Arnold, Amanda (Jason) of Arnold, Erin (Cedric) of Fort Collins, CO, Cade (Erica) of Gothenburg, Alex (Angelia) of Liberty, MO, Lauren (Sean) of Wallace, Chadwick (Taylor) of Hill Air Force Base, UT, Chana (Jose) of FL, Cindy (Chris) of WA, Danyel (David) of Florida, and Tyler (Noel) of North Platte; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by her nephews, Lathaniel and Willy, who she adored with all of her heart; and her beloved cat, Mika.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arland and Patricia Koubek of Arnold, and Stan and Ann Schmiett of Midvale, Utah; her great grandparents, Ray and Marie Hansen of Bloomfield, Katie and Frank Koubek of Arnold, and Alva and Velma Greenlee of Gothenburg.
