June Gibbs
June 4, 1916 — September 26, 2009
June Doris Gibbs, went into the presence of the Lord on September 26, 2009 accompanied by the singing of her daughters and a granddaughter.
June Doris was born in Brady, Nebraska June 4, 1916 to Henning Frank and Elsie Amelia Blede. June graduated from Brady High School and was a long time pianist at Brady Methodist Church. She married Roland Prince Gibbs on September 11, 1938. In 1940 their first daughter was born, Patricia Elsie. By 1942 they had moved to Wichita, Kansas where they both worked in the aircraft industry in support of the war effort. William Frank was born in 1942 and Penny Ann was born in 1950. During her children's early school years June worked in the home.
She loved flowers, baking and decorating the house for holidays. Her decorated Christmas cookies were always a favorite. When her children reached high school age, she worked in the cosmetic department in J. C. Penny's Department store in Wichita. She was grateful for the opportunity and friendships at work and for the integrity of the store's founder.
The family attended Epworth Methodist Church in Wichita for many years where she and Roland helped in MYF and June was a part of the W.S.C.S. and continued to support the church even after she moved to Buckner, Missouri. June enjoyed painting and poetry. With the help of her daughter and her great grand daughter she published two volumes of poetry. She painted scenes from her child hood on canvas, but also on hand saws, metal farm equipment seats, thimbles, trunks and most recently cigar boxes. She would give away the painted boxes to family and friends. They are now prized possessions.
Her faith in God and trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior has sustained her through her many difficulties and losses in her life. Every night she would pray for over a hundred people by name. In the last days of her life she would question her caretakers at the hospital and skilled nursing facility about their relationship with Jesus, and would offer them a gospel tract, if they were not sure.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roland, her parents and her two brothers, Harold and Harlan.
She is survived by her eldest daughter, Pat (Weiskirch) and her husband E. Dan by her son Bill and his wife Martha and by her daughter Penny (Elliott) and her husband Royce. Grandchildren, Rob Weiskirch and wife Amy, Rose (Englis) and husband Craig, Billy Gibbs and wife Amy and Dorian, Dustin and Devin Elliott, and great grandchildren Robyn and Paige Weiskirch, Isaac, Micah and Catherine Gibbs and step-great grandchildren Logan and Chelsea Englis. She is also survived by her beloved brother in law, Victor and by many nephews and nieces.
