Joyce Cunning

Joyce Margie Cunning, 85, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died March 18, 2015 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born May 14, 1929 in Julesburg, CO, daughter of Joy and Margy (Miller) Rothrock.

Joyce grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1947.  She married Francis Marion "John" Cunning on October 3, 1947 at Gothenburg. To this union three children were born -  Linda Joyce, Johnnie Francis, and Michael Joy. She spent many years babysitting and worked as a cook at Gothenburg Schools and Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.  She treasured the time she spent with her family and always had a soft spot in her heart for children.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of the Gothenburg First Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Brenda) Cunning of North Platte, NE; five granddaughters, Heather Cunning, Brandy (Ty) Persoma, Amber (Dustin) Smith, Chelsea (Josh) Hamilton, Jessica (Tucker) Shuler; great grandchildren: Dillon, Jayden, Augustyn, Nathan, Colton, Trevon, Boelen, Bridger, Carly, Kennedy, Hudson, Presley, and Brooks; daughter-in-law, Beth Cunning; sister-in-law, Eileen Cunning; brother, James Rothrock; sister, Jacqueline Frandsen; along with special nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, daughter, Linda, son, Johnnie and her parents.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, March 22, 2015, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1020 Lake Ave, PO Box 194, Gothenburg, NE 69138,  March 23, 2015 at 10:30 am with Pastors David and Jill Boyd officiating.

Interment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
