Johny Joe Foster

Johny Joe Foster, 80, of Kearney, Nebraska, died July 20, 2024 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE. 

Johny was born Johnny Wilson in North Platte, Nebraska to John Daniel and May Elizabeth (Sukraw) Wilson on October 8,1943. He spent most of his childhood in and around the North Platte area. Johny graduated from North Platte High School in 1962. John Daniel was killed in a car wreck when Johnny was about 6 years old. In 1949 May married Frank Foster, bringing along three little boys, Johny, Raymond, and Ivan.

Johny spent from 1965 to 2003 working for the UP Railroad out of North Platte. He was drafted into the Army in February of 1967 and was sent to Vietnam. He spent many months in the jungle where he earned a purple heart. He came home with many issues from being exposed to agent orange.

Johny married Phyllis Scofield/Brown in Cheyenne, WY on February 14, 1991. They resided there until moving back to Nebraska in 1997. They lived overlooking Lake McConaughy and in Ogallala until 2012 when they moved to Johnstown. CO for 10 years, then back to Nebraska in 2022. They remained in Kearney Nebraska until his death.

Johny's favorite thing to do was ride his motorcycles and travel. After he retired, he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their motor home. They were fortunate enough to travel to almost all of the states in the United States, visiting Canada and Mexico also. In his later years he enjoyed collecting guns and spending time at the gun range.

Johny is survived by his wife of 33 years Phyllis, three children, Robin, Rebecca, Steven, three step children, Kendra (Mike) Anderson, Kevin(Sheila) Brown, Greg (Zhonette) Brown, one brother, Raymond (Cheryl) Foster, many grandchildren great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, his parents, one brother, Ivan, and one niece, Kim Foster.

Celebration of Life will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 am. 

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
