John Schledewitz

September 26, 1918 — December 1, 2007

John joined his heavenly father on December 1, 2007 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center at the age of 89. He was born on September 26th, 1918 in Gering, NE to John and Mary Schledewitz.

On July 20th, 1941 John married Mildred Weinmaster in Minitare, NE. To this union were born three children; one daughter JoAnn and two sons John and Larry.

He and Mildred shared a lifetime of farming together in many areas of Nebraska and settled on a farm in Maxwell in 1968, where he was an award winning sugar beet grower. He retired in 1995 and moved to Gothenburg, but continued to enjoy helping on the farm until his health would no longer permit it.

John and Mildred were avid bowlers, enjoyed fishing together and spending time with family and friends. He could also be found at auctions, the coffee shop and church.

He was a true leader of the family and will be greatly missed. Survivors include daughter JoAnn (Alan) Rosse of Lincoln, and two sons John (Donna), Schledewitz Larry (Sue) Schledewitz both of Maxwell. Eight grandchildren Mitch (Diane) Gregg, Kelly Henry and special friend (Joe Klein), Jill (Jim) Falcon, Johnny and Janet Schledewitz, Aaron (Teri) Schledewitz, Samantha and Amber Schledewitz and special friend Bruce Watson. Eight great-grandchildren Erika and Zachary Gregg, Jalissa, Jimmy and Justin Falcon, Jaylen, Marissa and Garett Schledewitz. Sisters Rose (Al) Vlcek of Wilber, Mary Jacobs of Lincoln and Dorothy (Bruce) Lobdell of Gothenburg. A brother Ed (Leota) Schledewitz of Kearney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Philip, Hank, and John Cler, two sisters Molly Kildow and Katie DeFruiter. And a great-grandson Derek Henry.

Memorials are suggested to American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg or Maxwell Scholarship Fund. Condolences may be sent to Mildred Schledewitz 1011 16th St., Gothenburg, NE 69138.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 4th at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 5th, at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.

Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
