John Reed Holm, 81, of Gothenburg, passed away on February 11, 2010 at his home in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born on October 31, 1928 to Dr. Myron and Laura (Reed) Holm at York, NE. He graduated from York High School and York College. He moved to Gothenburg in 1950 to teach Jr high math and science. After 2 years of teaching, he worked for the Healey family for 47 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Audubon, and BAN. He did extensive work to promote the blue bird populations.
August 13, 1949 he married Patricia A. Fuller at York, NE, to this union 4 children were born. Nancy (Donn) Loy of Alma, NE; Judy (John) McKee of Salt Lake, UT; James (Starla) Holm of Lincoln, NE; and John "Jack" B (Penny) Holm of Cozad, NE. He had 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2009.
John was skilled in wood working-making furniture for his family and friends. He built hundreds of bird houses for people, Games & Parks and Audubon. He also maintained 180 bluebird houses. He enjoyed his family, wood working, fishing, hunting, and coffee with his friends.
He had a great quote from Dan Rather, "Being born on October 31st means people tend to remember your birthday."
John is survived by his wife and 4 children, their spouses and grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers James (Patsy) Holm of St Louis, MO; Richard (Darlene) Holm of St Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Maribelle.
Cremation was chosen and there will be private services at a later date.
