John H Hehnke of Juniata, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away on March 28, 2011 at the Grand Island Vets Hospital.
He was born on June 6, 1940 to Mr. John W and Mrs. Martha D (Ballmer) Hehnke at Gothenburg, NE.
John was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He also attended grade school and high school in Gothenburg and lived most of this life there.
John served in the US Army Reserves from 1960-1964. Then he enlisted in the Navy and served from 1964-1968, he reenlisted in the Navy and served from 1968-1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2 Bronze), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct award, certificate and medal.
John belonged to the V.F.W., the American Legion Club, and the Eagles Club.
He worked at Monroe's in Cozad, and the City of Gothenburg for about 18 years on the street department and also ran the landfill for 13 years.
John was preceded in death by his mother in 1976, and his father in 1982 and a brother Gary in 1992.
He was survived by his daughter - Jodi Tzirikidis and numerous friends.
