Joan Brand

Joan L. Brand, 75, of Gothenburg, Nebraska died May 31st, 2019 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born on December 26th, 1943 in Lexington, NE daughter of Wilbur and Renata (Esslinger) Brell.  She graduated from Elwood High School and attended Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, NE.  She married Roger Brand on May 12th, 1963 at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Bertrand, NE and made their home in Gothenburg, NE.  The couple’s union was blessed with three children, Michelle, Kristi and Mark.

Joan worked at Brand Electric as the bookkeeper for many years where the couple established Brand Electric & Grain Equipment Co.  Joan was a co-leader for Girl Scouts, 4-H club, a member of the Two-Ten extension club, Sweet Adeline’s and the Red Hat Society.  Joan volunteered at the Gothenburg Senior Center and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran church.  She kept busy with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their activities.  Joan enjoyed spending time with family, friends, baking, shopping, decorating and playing the organ and accordion.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Marvin Brand.

Survivors include husband, Roger Brand of Gothenburg, NE, three children, daughter, Michelle (Jonathan B.) Johnson of Paducah, KY, daughter, Kristi (Greg) Land of Brady, NE, and son, Mark (Lori) Brand of Gothenburg, NE; brother, Larry (Cheryl) Brell of Elwood, NE; sister-in-law, Eileen (Harold) Debban of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law, Betty Gaudreault of Cozad, NE; nine grandchildren, Amber Land, Austin (Kelsey) Land, Jonathan S. Johnson, Mackenzie Brand, Drake Brand, Kyla Sager, Nathan Sager, Crysten (Josh) Snyder, and Jeramie VanAcker of Florida; six great-grandchildren, Harmony, Liberty, Adalyn, Sophiya, Brayley, and New Baby Boy Land of Austin (Kelsey) Land; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth St, Gothenburg, NE, Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with family present from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2002 27th St, Gothenburg, NE, Thursday, June 6th, 2019 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.  Burial will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center, 410 20th St, Gothenburg, NE or to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 2002 27th St, Gothenburg, NE.
