Jerry Schurr, 77, of Farnam, Nebraska, died January 18, 2024 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Jerry was born July 13, 1946, to John and Estella Schurr in Gothenburg. He grew up on the family farm in Farnam. Jerry graduated from Farnam High School in 1964. He then continued his education at McCook Junior College where he was a member of the basketball team. While there, he joined the Nebraska National Guard and continued serving for 6 years. He enjoyed lasting friendships from those years throughout his life. He also enjoyed officiating basketball with his good friend, Jim Lydic, for 10 years.
In 1961 he started raising purebred Angus cattle and farming with his brother, John L. In 1983 they added a purebred Charolais herd to the ranch. The Schurrtop name is well respected in the purebred industry.
On September 3, 1968 he married his high school sweetheart Linda Kay Gummere of Sutherland at The Hitching Post in Las Vegas. They resided 4 miles west of Farnam where they raised their family.
Jerry was a caretaker of many animals and crops throughout his life. He loved his family and close friends fiercely. He had a generous, kind heart that was apparent to anyone that knew him. He and Linda were very proud of their kids and enjoyed spending time with them and their grandkids.
Survivors include daughter, Paige (Jeff) Kreycik of Kearney, NE; two sons, Jerud (Tamatha) Schurr of Phillipsburg, KS, Ty (Mikaela) Schurr of Gothenburg, NE; 6 grandchildren - Presley, Dawson, Jack, Chase, Ryleigh and Jude; and great granddaughter Oakley. Sister, Janet (John) Speck, of St. Paul; sisters-in-law Kay Schurr of Farnam and Vicki (Steve) Cochran of Cozad, NE; along with extended family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; father, John; mother and stepfather, Estella and LeRoy Tillotson; brother, John L. and nephew, Wayne Schurr.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Services will be held at Lonestar Cowboy Church, 75435 DR. 408, Farnam, NE, January 25, 2024 at 10:30 am with Pastor Greg Boller officiating.
Interment will follow in the Farnam Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Farnam Senior Center.
